Below are some of our most frequently asked questions.

What are your opening times?

Monday- Friday: 4:30pm- 8:00pm

Saturday: 10am- 5pm

Sunday: 10am-5pm

Students on the crash courses will have varied timings.

How long are the lessons?

Each lesson is 90 minutes long.

What happens at the assessment stage?

Your child will be given an assessment dependant on their age and the subject they wish to study with us: For KS1 and KS2 the assessments will be 30 minutes per subject; for KS3 they will be 45 minutes; and for GCSE- A level they will be 60 minutes.

The tests are developed by the tutors at the centre and are made to cover a snippet of all the topics from the curriculum for each academic year. This allows us to realise the child’s understanding of the breadth of the curriculum and then tailor their lesson plans accordingly.

How are the students taught?

Your child can be taught one-to-one or in small groups. They will be taught via a mixture of presentations, work sheets and interactive lessons; this is dependent on the subject, the teacher and the child’s learning style.

What is the ratio of children to tutors?

In our group sessions, we will have a maximum of 4 students per tutor. Depending on their assessments and other requirements, we will aim to group students on their ability or by the subject(s) they wish to study. This will ensure they still receive the individual attention that they require throughout the lesson.

Can I get one-to-one tuition?

Yes! This can be booked at the centre after your child’s assessment.

How does Birmingham Tutorial College differ from general classroom learning?

At our centre, we develop individual ‘learning journeys’ for each child so they are not just working towards an exam. We aim to allow our students time and practice to understand their topics through teaching and individual learning; as well as developing key skills in Math, English and Science, each student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that our students will not be dependent on, or limited by, the skills and knowledge of others.

Does Birmingham Tutorial College work alongside what my child learns at school?

The learning specifications for each year group are developed based on the national curriculum. For GCSE and A level courses, they have been developed in accordance to the exam board specifications for the new examinations.

Does Birmingham Tutorial College help students with the 11+/SATs/scholarship/GCSEs/A level exams?

Yes, we have a teaching plan to span the academic year for each type of exam, for this we have worked alongside the exams boards to ensure our tutors are up to date with changes to any specifications and have planned their lessons appropriately.

How much does it cost?

The standard price is £25 for a 90-minute session, however for specific pricing you may visit the Fees section for a complete breakdown for each level.
